FIBA 3X3 Style

Court, Ball & Game Start

  • Game begins after 5-minute warm-up; any team not present after the warm-up time forfeits the game
    • Team must be seen in the gym by an organizer before the 5-minute warm up expires
    • Score will be marked as 10-0 for a forfeit game (point differential of +10)
  • Warm-up begins at scheduled game time; 3PB may decrease warm-up time as needed
  • An Official FIBA 3X3 basketball provided by tournament organizers shall be used
    • 3PB kindly asks that referees and court managers hold on to their court's basketball

Team Roster & Coaching

  • Maximum of 4 players (3 + 1 substitute); must match the submitted roster on the registration form
  • U19 & younger divisions are permitted coaching, adult divisions are not (1 warning, then tech.)

Official(s)

  • 1 official per game; 2 officials when possible in Men's Elite semi-finals and finals

Table Official

  • 2 (scoreboard & shot-clock operator, scoresheet manager)

Timeouts

  • 1 per team, 30 seconds

Initial Possession

  • Coin flip to decide between possession at the beginning of the game or a potential overtime

Scoring

  • 1 point and 2 points, if scored behind the arc

Check Ball

  • Location: At the top of the playing court with both feet behind the arc
  • 'Double Check': Ball must be checked from offense to defense to offense (offensive player touches the ball twice); after this process, the ball is live
  • Shoot Without Dribbling: Offensive player can shoot without dribbling once the ball is live
  • Start of Game or Overtime: Referee hands ball to offensive player, who then checks the ball

Possession Following a…

  • Score: Defense possession right underneath the hoop, ball to be "cleared" with both feet behind the arc, defensive team cannot play for the ball inside the "no-charge semicircle" (but the ball is live as soon as the offensive team steps out of the "no-charge semicircle")
  • Defensive Rebound or Steal: Ball to be "cleared" with both feet behind the arc
  • Dead Ball: Only on out of bounds or foul calls; ball to be checked as per 'Check Ball' rules above
  • Jump-ball Situation: Always defense possession

Game Duration & Score Limit

  • 10 minutes of regular playing time; score limit of 21 for regular playing time
  • Game Clock: Running clock with stoppage time in the last 2 minutes (if score is within 10)

Overtime

  • First team to score 2 points wins the game, no time limit (i.e., maximum score of 23)

Shot-Clock

  • 12 seconds, starting when the offensive player has possession; resets to 12 on defensive fouls

Note: If shot-clock device is not available, referee to count down the last 5 seconds (applies to 1 court).

Shooting Foul

  • 1 free throw (if team foul 7+, 2 free throws regardless of make or miss)
  • 2 free throws, if foul committed behind the arc (1 if basket was successful)

Foul Limits

  • Team foul limit of 6; fouls 7 to 9 result in 2 free throws; fouls 10+ result in 2 free throws + possession

Technical Foul

  • 1 free throw, no change of possession

Unsportsmanlike Foul

  • 2 free throws, no change of possession (except for team foul 10+)
  • Counted as 2 fouls for team foul tracking purposes

Note: Referees and organizers reserve the right to disqualify any player from the game and/or tournament

Disqualifying Foul

  • 2 free throws + ball possession, player ejected
  • Counted as 2 fouls for team foul tracking purposes

Substitutions

  • In dead-ball situations, prior to check ball (require no action from referees or table officials)

Standings

  • 1) Win/loss ratio, 2) Head-to-head, 3) Total point-differential
