3-Point Contest Rules — Toronto Summer 2026

Two Separate Contests

Two Contests: Youth (17 & under) and Adults (18 & over)
- Prize pool starts at $300 each and grows to become half the total pot
Rules: The rules below apply to each contest independently

Scheduled Times

Round 1: First-come, first-serve basis operating in a 'drop-in' format between 9am to 1pm
- Contestants to 'drop-in' to complete their round anytime during the scheduled window when they do not have overlapping scheduled games
- Any contestants that do not participate during the scheduled window will be forfeit

Practice Shots

Round 1: Only 3 practice shots are permitted; contestants who take more will be disqualified
Round 2: No practice shots permitted

Contest Format: Two Rounds

Time Limit: Contest will consist of 27 total shots with a time limit of 70 seconds
27 Shots: 5 (five) shots from each of the 5 main spots on the court (corner, wing, top, wing, corner) for a sub-total of 25 shots, with 2 additional 'Pillar Shots' from each of the two deep-wings
Scoring: 'Pillar Shots' are worth 3 points each, contestant can designate a 'Money Rack' where each ball is worth 2 points, every other ball is worth 1 point – resulting in a maximum total score of 36

Other Key Rules

Start: Shooter cannot pick up or touch the ball until the referee has blown the whistle
Feet: Both feet must remain behind the 3-point line for a shot to count
Line: Players must use the outer FIBA 3-point line
Pillar Shots: Shooter must be beside or behind the rack/pillar (not in front)
End: Ball must be released from the shooter's hands before the buzzer sounds for a shot to count

Rounds

2 Rounds: Round 1 (initial) and Round 2 (top 5), separate for each age group
Order: Contestants will shoot in order of worst to best score based on their score in the prior round; in the case of a tie, a contestant may volunteer or a coin will be flipped

Tiebreaker

'One Shot for a Thousand Bucks': In the event of a tied score, a single 'do-or-die' shot will determine which player advances to the next round
The first shot will be determined by a contestant volunteering or a coin flip
'Redemption Rule': If the first contestant makes their first shot, the second contestant gets an opportunity to make theirs as a 'redemption' shot; this only applies to the very first shot of the tiebreaker contest – the 'redemption' rule does not apply after the first shot of the contest
